on the studs. And the hose blocks are very thick. Because the work area is so tight, I don't think you want to drop the compressor and try to loosen them later. But I could be wrong. Lacking advice to the contrary, my approach was, "pick the devil you know rather than the devil you don't." I used a gear wrench on the the one farthest from the block and, with a bit tighter clearances on the other, a box end is probably supreme. Haven't done the reinstall. I waited to see if I could get the compressor out before I ordered a replacement. .
